Spend the Day with PDSA
Thursday 29th October 2015, Denman, Oxfordshire
Attendance is FREE (Ballot form at the bottom of this post)
We are without doubt, a nation of animal lovers. Around 13 million UK households have pets, tens of thousands of us support animal welfare causes and millions more admire cute animal photos and videos on social media.
Vet charity PDSA has been looking after sick and injured pets of people in need for nearly 100 years. They have treated over 20 million pets since they were set up in 1917 by animal lover and philanthropist, Maria Dickin.
Maria was also responsible for instituting the PDSA Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross, which aims to raise the status of animals in society by recognising acts of bravery and devotion to duty in the theatre of conflict.
In a very special event, the WI welcomes PDSA and two of its celebrity supporters to Denman to share in a day of knowledge, nostalgia and baking!
TV vet Steve Leonard and PDSA Director General Jan McLoughlin will talk more about the work of PDSA and TV chef and PDSA supporter Colin McGurran will share how he became involved with the charity following his success on the BBC’s Great British Menu.
Colin will also be giving a very special baking demonstration during the afternoon and will take questions from the audience. Join us for interesting and enlightening sessions:
- Pet owners of today and how PDSA helps them
- PDSA tomorrow – The challenges faced by our pet nation and what their future holds
- PDSA and me, by TV vet Steve Leonard
- PDSA Dickin Medal – Its heritage and heroes
- Colin McGurran – BBC’s Great British Menu chef on hero pigeons and Dickin Medal desserts
The event promises to be wonderfully informative and deliciously entertaining. If you love pets and food, this is definitely the Denman event for you!
