As Kit mentioned at the last meeting we have capped membership at 50 people. We feel this is the appropriate number to fit comfortably into the hall and to get the most from the activities that are provided each month.  We will keep a waiting list for anyone wishing to join once the limit is reached –  We are very close to that.

Hampton WI

The annual Hampton Carnival takes place on June 11th on the green in The Avenue. The WI will run a stall selling the usual cakes and jams. We are leaving crafts for Christmas when they sell better.  The theme is the Queens 90th Birthday our  Knit and Stitch ladies have been knitting and crocheting red, white and blue bunting to decorate our stall.

Last year some of our members helped prepare and serve tea to the veterans and naval ratings at this annual event.  We did such a good job we have been asked to do it again, so please let Kit know if you can help.

And for those who did help last year they have a little thank you for us; except we didn’t keep a list so if you came and lent a hand then please can you contact Kit.  We know the following members were there

Liz Neilson, Jacqui, Aimee, Glenys, Lesley, Kit, and Gwen but we are sure we have missed a couple so please let us know so you don’t miss out on our special treat

We also have to take a second vote on this years resolution from the two shortlisted resolutions

2016 Annual Meeting Resolutions

Every year members propose, and select, resolutions that could form the basis for NFWI campaigns and activity. Just under 100,000 members have taken part in the 2016 selection process so far. Over 40,000 members backed the following two resolutions. They will both now go forward to a vote at the Annual Meeting in Brighton on 11 June.

Avoid food waste, address food poverty
‘The WI calls on all supermarkets to sign up to a voluntary agreement to avoid food waste, thereby passing surplus food on to charities thus helping to address the issue of increasing food poverty in the UK.’

Appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia
‘We call upon HM Government and the NHS to provide facilities to enable carers to stay with people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia that have been admitted into hospital.’

More details are can be found here The WI Resolutions  and also in the recent issue of WI Life which all members should have received by post.
