Dunkirk Little Ships Veterans Cruise – Help needed

We are asking for volunteers to help we with The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships Veterans Cruise event at Thames Motor Yacht Club on

Saturday 5th September.

Association of Dunkirk Little Ships

Little Ships

There’s a military band to be fed at 16:00 and the veterans at about 18:00.

Volunteers are needed between 13:00 and 20:00. We are hoping members will help with setting tables, prepping meal (eg cutting quiches, cooking new potatoes), clearing up. No tea/coffee serving (they get that from bar).

If you can volunteer for the whole time that would be amazing, or first half or second half. Many hands make light work, the more we have the sooner we will finish!

There is no parking at the club so please arrive by bus, park at Hampton Court Green pay and display car park, or ask a nice person to drop you off!!!!

Please let us know if you are able and willing to help with this event by emailing or calling Kit on kit.greenleaves@gmail.com

Summer break draws to an end

What better way to spend a wet Sunday than updating the Hampton WI website.

Lots of interesting events are sent to us many with cost reductions and special offers and if anyone would like to coordinate a specific trip then please shout up.  We receive far more than I am able to post but I try to add those that I think will interest our members.

We manage some good trips out last year, to the Theatre, the knitting show and our walk around London gardens and it would be great to do some more.  If you see a published event you might like to go to then please add a comment and see of others are interested too

To keep the site tidy and easy to navigate all events of interest can be seen in the Events tabs and all other information including details of Tuesday meetings and fundraising activities are in the News tab.  I encourage you to look at the Events page as a few new ones have been added today.

Including

Nutcracker Dressed by angels Denman College

Due to this change you will see an increase in emails received from the site please let me know if the number you receive is too high and we can look at reducing the number of posts.

At time of posting we are only 17 days from our next meeting and we look forward to seeing you all again and hope you all had a good summer break

Spend the Day with Vet charity PDSA

Spend the Day with PDSA

Thursday 29th October 2015, Denman, Oxfordshire

Attendance is FREE (Ballot form at the bottom of this post)

We are without doubt, a nation of animal lovers. Around 13 million UK households have pets, tens of thousands of us support animal welfare causes and millions more admire cute animal photos and videos on social media.

Vet charity PDSA has been looking after sick and injured pets of people in need for nearly 100 years. They have treated over 20 million pets since they were set up in 1917 by animal lover and philanthropist, Maria Dickin.

Maria was also responsible for instituting the PDSA Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross, which aims to raise the status of animals in society by recognising acts of bravery and devotion to duty in the theatre of conflict.

In a very special event, the WI welcomes PDSA and two of its celebrity supporters to Denman to share in a day of knowledge, nostalgia and baking!

TV vet Steve Leonard and PDSA Director General Jan McLoughlin will talk more about the work of PDSA and TV chef and PDSA supporter Colin McGurran will share how he became involved with the charity following his success on the BBC’s Great British Menu.

Colin will also be giving a very special baking demonstration during the afternoon and will take questions from the audience. Join us for interesting and enlightening sessions:

  • Pet owners of today and how PDSA helps them
  • PDSA tomorrow – The challenges faced by our pet nation and what their future holds
  • PDSA and me, by TV vet Steve Leonard
  • PDSA Dickin Medal – Its heritage and heroes
  • Colin McGurran – BBC’s Great British Menu chef on hero pigeons and Dickin Medal desserts

The event promises to be wonderfully informative and deliciously entertaining. If you love pets and food, this is definitely the Denman event for you!
